Our Beliefs
THE BIBLE:
We believe that all Scripture, found in the sixty-six books of the
Bible, was given by inspiration of God; that it is inerrant in the
original writings and that its teaching and authority is absolute,
supreme, and final.(Is 40:8; Matt: 5:18; 24:35; 1 Thes 2:13; 2 Tim
3:16; 2 Pet 1:20-21).
GOD:
We believe in the sovereignty of God and that He eternally exists
in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These
three are one God, having the same nature, attributes, and
perfection. (Gen 1:1; 1:26; Mt 3:16; 28:19-20; Mk 12:29; Jn
1:1-3,14; 10:30,37-38; 12:45; 14:6-10; Acts 5:3-4; 2 Cor 13:14).
JESUS:
We believe in the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, begotten of the
Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, truly God, and truly man.
(Mt 1:18-25; Jn 1:1-3, 14; 10:30; 20:28; Gal 4:4; Col 2:9; 1 Tim
3:16; Heb 1:1-3; Rev 1:8).
HOLY SPIRIT:
We believe in the personality and deity of the Holy Spirit,
the source and power of all acceptable worship and service, who
indwells and baptizes every true believer, imparting spiritual
gifts as He wills. (Jn 14:16-17; 15:26; 16:7-15; Acts 1:8; 5:3-4;
Rom 8:9,26-27,1 Cor 3:16; 12:1-13).
MAN:
We believe that man was created in the image and likeness of
God, but that the whole human race fell in the sin of Adam, and
apart from Christ, is spiritually dead and lost. We believe that
no degree of reformation however great, no attainment in morality
however high, no culture nor humanitarian and philanthropic
schemes however useful, and no baptism or other ordinance however
administered, can help the sinner to take even one step toward
heaven; but a new nature imparted from God and implanted by the
Holy Spirit through Jesus Christ is absolutely essential to
salvation (Gen 1:26; 3:6; Jn 3:3-8,16,18,36; 14:6; Rom 3:10-12,23;
5:12; 6:23; 2 Cor 5:17; Eph 2:1-5; Tit 3:5).
SALVATION:
We believe that Jesus Christ became the sinner's only
substitute before God and died as a completely satisfactory
sacrifice and payment for the sin of any repentant sinner who will
trust in Christ. We believe that He redeemed us from the curse of
the law by becoming a curse in our place, dying the Just for the
unjust according to the Scriptures, and that no repentance, no
faith, no good resolutions, no sincere efforts, no submission to
the rules and regulations of any church can add in the very least
to the value of the precious blood or to the merit of that
finished work wrought for us by Him. (Jn 1:29; Rom 5:6-8; 1 Cor
15:3-4; 2 Cor 5:21; Gal 3:3; Eph 1:7; Col 2:14-23; 1 Pet
1:18,19,23; 2:24; 3:18).
RESURRECTION:
We believe that in the same body in which Christ had been
crucified, He arose from the dead glorified, and ascended to the
right hand of the Father where He is now Head over all things to
the Church and ceaselessly advocates and intercedes for those who
are His (Jn 20:20,27-29; Acts 1:9-2; 10:40-41; 1 Cor 14:3-8; Eph
1:20-22; Heb 7:25; 1 Jn 2:1).
BAPTISM:
We believe in the water baptism of all true believers, a rite
ordained as an outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual
grace; an ordinance instituted directly by Christ, as a sign of
our old nature being baptized unto His death. "Buried with Him in
baptism, wherein also ye are risen with Him through the faith of
the operations of God, who hath raised Him from the dead." (Col
2:21; Mt 28:29; Mk 16:16; Acts 2:38; Rom 6:3; 1 Pet 3:21).
COMMUNION:
We believe in the ordinance of the Lord's Supper, and being
obedient to His command to partake of the sanctity of communion as
a feast of remembrance of Him and of what He did for us on the
cross. (Mt 26:26; Mk 14:22; Lk 22:19; 1 Cor 10:16).
CHURCH:
We believe in the church which is the elect Body of Christ
comprised of all those who have been granted saving faith in Him.
We believe that this is a holy calling and that we are to be
devoted to one another in brotherly love. (Rom 12:9-10; Eph 1:23;
1 Cor 12:27; 2 Tim 1:9; Heb 3:1; 12:14; 1 Pet 1:16; 1 Jn 3:14-15).
CHRIST'S RETURN:
We believe in the personal return of our Lord and Saviour Jesus
Christ, and that His coming again is the "Blessed Hope" set before
us, for which we should be constantly looking. "Our citizenship is
in heaven from whence we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus
Christ" (Phil 3:20; Jn 14:1-3; Acts 1:11; 1 Thes 1:10; 4:13-18;
Tit 2:2-14; 1 Jn 2:28; 3:1-3; Rev 22:20).
YOUTH MINISTRY:
Part of the scriptural foundation for Legacy Community Church
centers on three texts; the Great Commandment - Matthew 22:37, the
Great Commission - Matthew 28:19-20 along with Malachi 4:6 and
Ephesians 6:1-4.
These last two texts focus on the role the parents, especially the
fathers, have in family life. We want a church ministry that will
equip the fathers to be the spiritual leaders in their respective
families with the goal of training and winning the hearts of their
children.
Thus, we believe the best approach in training children and youth
is through the family as opposed to various autonomous
groups.
To accomplish this goal we want to strive for a more SERVICE
oriented versus a CONSUMER oriented mentality concerning our
approach to young people. This is in line with the core philosophy
of INTEGRATION vs. SEGREGATION as it relates to worship, family,
and ministry.
Therefore, to be service oriented we will approach bible studies
and activities from an integrated stance which will allow the
example of service to be modeled by the fathers to the children
and young adults. Our youth will be involved in various aspects of
the church service, outreach projects in the community, and
missions opportunities near and far. These events can be a tool of
evangelism for unsaved friends or people new to the church.
However, we are not saying that our young people will never be
together for various activities for fear of the wrong influences.
We will have times for bible study and fun at various homes for
fellowship and hospitality. In this manner evangelism and
discipleship can be seen from a family perspective.
GUIDELINES FOR MUSIC USED IN WORSHIP:
Like the rest of creation, music is designed by God for His own
glory and the words we sing should be Christ-centered
(Romans 11:36).
Music should be used as a tool to facilitate worship, not
as an end in itself. Music enhances our expression of
adoration toward God beyond that of the spoken word alone
(Psalm 147:1).
Music in worship should be offered in such a way that the
message of the song is enhanced. The text should not be
distracted by pretentious performances that are calculated to
engender men's praise.
Ravi Zacharias, a contemporary Christian apologist, has
argued that when the form of the worship violates the substance of
the text of Scripture then the worship is not glorifying to
God. Therefore, our services consist of a mixture of
well-known hymns and choruses that exalt God in song and praise
(Psalm 150:6).
